Terms and Conditions

Course Booking

Bristol and Bath Intensive Courses (“the Company”) acts solely as a booking and administration agent on behalf of independent DVSA-approved driving instructors. When you book a course through us, you are entering into a tuition agreement with an independent instructor. We do not provide driving lessons ourselves, nor do we employ or manage instructors.

The course booked is for the date and time agreed at the time of booking and confirmed by us in writing. You may cancel within 14 working days from the date of this confirmation by emailing admin@bristolandbathintensivecourses.com. Cancellation emails must be received during office hours (Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm).

If you book a course scheduled to begin within 14 working days, we require your express agreement to begin the service immediately. By doing so, you acknowledge that your 14-day statutory cancellation right no longer applies once the course begins.

1A. Course Changes and Cancellations After Cooling-Off Period

Once the statutory 14 working day cooling-off period has passed, refunds are only considered where at least 20 working days’ notice is given before the course start date. A cancellation fee equal to the deposit paid will apply to cover administrative work and course planning.

If less than 20 working days’ notice is given, the full course fee is non-refundable.

1B. Change Requests

If you request a change of course date after the cooling-off period and we are unable to accommodate this (e.g., due to instructor availability), the original booking remains in place. If you choose not to proceed, this will be treated as a cancellation without sufficient notice, and the full course fee will be retained.

1C. Amendments by the Company

In rare cases, we may need to amend a confirmed course date due to instructor illness, scheduling issues, or other operational reasons. We will notify you as early as possible and offer an alternative. If a suitable replacement cannot be arranged, any refund or credit is at our discretion. We are not liable for any costs or losses arising from changes to your course schedule.

1D. Unused Hours and Instructor Withdrawal

If you have unused course hours because lessons were held back (for example, waiting for a test date or due to diary constraints), these will normally be delivered by your allocated instructor.

If your instructor becomes unable to complete your course after it has begun, we will make reasonable efforts to allocate a replacement instructor to deliver any remaining hours.

  • If a replacement is arranged: your course will continue as planned, though lesson times may differ.

  • If no replacement is available and we have not yet paid the instructor for those hours: you will receive a pro-rata refund for the unused hours at the standard instructor rate (£40–£45 per hour at the time of publication).

  • If the instructor has already been paid for those hours: any refund for the unused hours must be discussed directly with the instructor. We will assist in facilitating this process, but we are not legally liable to provide that refund ourselves.

Plain English summary: If your instructor drops out, we’ll try to replace them. If we can’t and we still hold your money, we’ll refund you. If the instructor already has your money, you’ll need to get the refund from them — but we’ll help where we can.

Flexible Scheduling and Course Delivery

Courses are typically structured as 20 hours over 5 days or 28 hours over 7 days, usually with 4 hours per day. However, lesson times may be:

  • Split unevenly across days

  • Scheduled over non-consecutive days (including across different weeks)

  • Adjusted to suit instructor or pupil availability

The final schedule is arranged directly between you and your instructor. This flexibility ensures the best match for both your availability and the instructor’s diary.

Please note:

  • Missed or shortened sessions are not refundable.

  • Schedule changes require mutual consent.

  • Lessons usually begin and end at your home or other convenient location.

  • Arriving late or finishing early does not entitle you to additional hours or refunds.

  • Instructors and training vehicles may be substituted where necessary.

  • You must hold a valid UK provisional licence and meet DVSA eyesight standards.

2A. Instructor Schedule Adjustments

Instructors may adjust session lengths to fit their diary, provided the total agreed hours are delivered. These adjustments are not grounds for refunds.

Training

Tuition is delivered by independently contracted DVSA-registered instructors. While we assist with booking and coordination, we do not manage or supervise instructors.

Passing the driving test is not guaranteed. Some pupils may require additional lessons. The Company is not responsible for any additional training arranged privately.

Theory Test

We can assist with booking an official DVSA theory test. You must bring your UK provisional licence when attending.

Driving Test

Driving tests are not included unless specifically stated at booking. We can assist in booking a practical test after you pass the theory.

DVSA test centres do not supply test vehicles. Use of your instructor’s vehicle must be arranged directly with them and may incur a cost.

Test Booking and Refund Policy

If we cannot secure a suitable test date and you have paid for the booking, we will refund that fee. We may also recommend third-party services to help secure a test faster.

Cancellation Fee Policy

If a refund is permitted, a cancellation fee equal to the deposit paid will be applied. In genuine emergencies, we may reduce or waive this fee or offer it as future credit.

Free Theory Retraining

You will have access to our online theory training platform until you pass your theory test.

Force Majeure

We are not liable for DVSA test centre closures, weather disruption, illness, or other external factors beyond our control.

Mentoring Retest Programme

If you fail your driving test after completing your course, you may access free mentoring support. Submit your DL25 test report within 7 days. Any further training must be arranged with your instructor.

Our Role as Agent and Payment Handling

We act only as a booking and admin agent. We:

  • Arrange the course

  • Coordinate communication

  • Assist with test bookings

  • Retain a variable commission from your payment

The remainder is allocated to your instructor.

Funds are not held in a ring-fenced account and may be used before your course takes place. Refunds are only issued in line with our Terms. Commission amounts are not itemised on receipts or invoices.

Instructor Relationship and Responsibility

Instructors are self-employed and deliver your tuition independently. You acknowledge that:

  • Your contract is with the instructor

  • They are responsible for lesson quality, vehicle use, and test readiness

  • Any extra sessions, test day charges, or refunds must be discussed directly

Complaints and Resolution Process

We want you to have a good experience. If you are unhappy:

  1. Speak to your instructor first

  2. If unresolved, contact our admin team — we’ll support or mediate where possible

Please note:

  • We are not liable for tuition quality, delays, or instructor conduct

  • Refunds or compensation for tuition are at the instructor’s discretion unless agreed otherwise

Liability Disclaimer

We are not liable for any loss, dissatisfaction, or injury from tuition. Our liability is limited to errors in course admin or communication. All instructors are required to hold valid insurance and DVSA registration.

VAT Information

VAT is applied where applicable based on our registration status and agency commission structure.

As we operate under an agency model, VAT may only apply to the commission retained by Bristol and Bath Intensive Courses. The instructor’s portion of the fee is passed on directly and may not be subject to VAT through us.

If you require a VAT invoice, please request this at the time of booking.

Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be handled in English courts.

Legal Entity Disclosure

Bristol and Bath Intensive Courses is a UK-based sole trader business operating under a registered trading name. Full legal details, including the responsible individual, are available in our Privacy Policy and on request, in accordance with UK business disclosure requirements.
